Join the VNHELP Community Engagement Committee!

Are you interested in learning more about Vietnam and the social issues the country faces? Do you have a can-do attitude and believe that every individual can contribute to making this world a better place? Are you looking for a better way to get involved?

If you answered yes, yes, and yes, then VNHELP wants you to be part of our newly formed Community Engagement Committee! The Community Engagement Committee (CEC) will work closely with VNHELP to generate awareness and raisefunds for poverty alleviation in Vietnam. Beyond that, you’ll also have the opportunity to lead new initiatives, learn about various causes, educate the community, and form friendships with good people who share your values.

For more mature individuals, this is a great chance to give back to your community on a deeper level. For younger individuals, you’ll learn leadership skills and receive mentorship from your peers. (Click on “Read the rest of this entry” below to see additional details.)

We’ve prepared a more formal description in this document here, but below are some quick answers to questions you might be having.

What is the goal of the CEC?

Raise awareness for social and poverty-related issues in Vietnam, fundraise to ensure the sustainability of our poverty alleviation programs, outreach to the community, and form new partnerships with individuals and groups who share our mission. Also: have fun and enjoy doing good deeds.

How does the CEC work?

You’ll work and meet with a VNHELP staff member to bounce new ideas and then implement them. You may also help implement new initiatives developed by the VNHELP core staff as well. The VNHELP staff will provide you with logistical and any other support you need. It’s a chance to see your ideas come to life.

Who makes up CEC?

People just like you! (And a VNHELP staff member to make your experience run smoothly.) You can join as a general committee member, but VNHELP is also looking for people to fill in these specific roles: Youth Ambassadors, Young Professional Ambassadors, Seniors Ambassadors, Medical Ambassadors.

What is the time commitment?

This is up to you; you can decide how deeply you want to get involved with campaigns and activities and allocate your time from there. We’ll try to make it enriching so that you’ll want to spend more time with the CEC, but for now we’re asking  a minimum commitment of attending 1 meeting every quarter (every three months) for a nine month term (a total of three meetings). You’ll get involved in more meetings and activities as necessary.

Do I have to be in the Bay Area to be part of the CEC?

It would definitely help if you were in the Bay Area, but if you’re a great planner and feel like you can get a lot done from afar, we welcome you to the committee. With the power of telecommunications technology today, we can work something out.

What do you think I’ll get out of this experience?

The knowledge that you’ve given hope to someone living in poverty. The joy of championing the causes you care about. The thrill of seeing your ideas come to life. We really do want to make this a great experience for you, so if you’ve got a specific goal in mind, let us know. Volunteering is always a great way to learn new professional skills (or expand existing ones) and you could walk away with a renewed perspective on life.
